5Surprising - VERY good sound
By Steve Hudson
I bought these for my 97 Dodge 2500 Club Cab front doors, knowing they were a very different size than the factory speakers (6x9). I had listened to several 6.5" 2-way component speakers and much preferred their sound to any aftermarket 6x9. I checked out several brands - Polk Audio and Focal in particular - and decided I didn't want to spend as much money as these would cost. I called Pyle customer support and spoke with a very knowledgeable person (had experience with Pyle and many other brands) and came away with a confident feeling the Pyle Driver PLDV6K speakers would suit my needs just fine, so I bought a set. I also read several online reviews with most saying these were quite good and a few saying they were bad - distorted, no bass or simply didn't last long. I will say my experience is inline with those who liked them. All I can say regarding reviewers saying they're no good are the following suggestions.1) If using crimp type terminals, make SURE you are getting a good crush on the terminal ferule to ensure good, solid contact with the wire. Hold the terminal with one hand and the wire with the other and tug back and forth. If there's ANY indication of movement of the wire inside the terminal crimp it again. Solid connections are imperative to getting the audio signal to the speaker, and intermittent connectivity will definitely cause distorted sound and possibly cause speaker damage. Soldering, if done properly, is another very effective means of connecting wires to terminals. NEVER just twist wires together and wrap with electrical tape - you're just inviting poor connectivity.2) I used to work in the home and car audio industry as a customer service manager for a small chain in OK (i.e, repair of customer equipment - amps, speakers, etc). I know all too well that feeding a distorted signal to speakers is the surest way to kill tweeters and eventually other drivers. This is easier done with under powered amps if the listener is trying to get more sound volume than the amp/speaker combo is capable of as they not matched up well. Using a higher power amp will help ensure a clean, undistorted signal is fed to the speakers, providing the ability to play louder and cleaner and more likely be more reliable (provided the user isn't pushing their equipment beyond their design limits).Back to my review. I'm running these speakers on an older Alpine CDA-9856 head unit and Alpine 3566 6-channel amp (conservatively rated 35W RMS x4 and 120W RMS for bridged sub channel into 4 Ohms). Following advice from several reviewers and professional installers, I bought a roll of sound dampening material to apply to the door panels and elsewhere. I bought roof repair material - Tape and Seal is one brand - which is very similar to another very high priced product and it worked quite well. Once this was done and the speakers were mounted and connected to the amp, I turned it on for the first time. After the initial checkup to make sure all speakers were working, I cranked up the volume to a pleasantly loud level and was very surprised and pleased to hear the amount of bass they produced and more importantly, the smoothness and detail of the midrange and highs coming from these speakers. The sound reminded me of how the Polk Audio 6.5" 2-way components sounded. I tried several different music types and with each genre the sound quality was just a pleasing. If the source material was a known clean music source, the sound that came from these Pyle Driver speakers was equally up to the task of reproducing the finely detailed sound present in the music. I feel sure these can produce even higher sound levels cleanly with a more powerful amp.So, long story short, I HIGHLY recommend these for anyone looking for a very reasonably priced 2-way component system and wants accurate, smooth and detailed sound quality and listens to their music at reasonably loud levels. If you're looking for sound levels at ear damaging levels I first suggest you learn to listen at lower levels, but if not, then select other speakers that are designed for extremely loud sound levels. I would definitely buy these again and recommend these to others.

4Nice speaker
By A. Bardsley
Not much else to say here... Great sounding speakers for the price. Don't expect massive bass from these, but the mis-bass through highs are clear. I added a single 8" subwoofer for bass.
